All-season health and holiday resort of national importance, situated in S central Romania at the southern foot of Lotru Mountains (Southern Carpathians), upstream of the Lotru river, elevation 600-800 m, 60km NW of the municipality of Ramnicu Valcea (seat of Valcea county) to which it is connected by a modernized road.
Intra-montane climate with cool summer (July average temperature 14°C) and cold winters (January average -7°C). The precipitations total about 800 mm annualy. The main therapeutic factors are the tonic-excitant climate with clean air, free of dust and allergens, powerfully ozonized, rich in iodinated and ozonized aerosols and ultraviolet radiations.
It is recommended for holidays and in the treatement of asthenic neurosis, weakly conditions, physical and intellectual overexortion, secondary anemia etc.
Tourist draws: the forest reservation of Latorita (650 ha), the Vidra artificial strage lake on the Lotru.
