This is the oldes health resort in Romania, known since the Roman times, when it was called Ad aquas Herculis sacras (its documentary attestation as a resort dates back to A.D. 153), for the therapeutical effects of the sulphurous, sodic, calcic, magnesian, oligomineral thermal waters, that are slightly radioactive, used both in internal and external cures. Given the high temperature of the mineral waters (38-60°C) and the varied mineralization (3166-7426 mg...), their physiologic action is complex and the therapeutical value - matchless.
The resort has developed especially after 1948 when it became an all-season resort of national importance, recommended for the treatment of degenrative rheumatic troubles (arthrosis, polyarthrosis, spondylosis, etc.), inflammatory (spondylitis) and abarticular (tendonitis, tendomyositis, scapulohumeral periarthritis), peripheral neurological disorders (pareses, paralysis), as well as for the treatment of associated diseases (gynecological, respiratory, otorhynolaryngological, dermatological, obesity, etc.). The modern balneal facilities provide for hydrotherapy, kinetotherapy, electrotherapy, there are gyms and sauna, etc. Treatments are made with Pell-Amar (mineral complex extracted from sapropelic mud) and with Boicil Forte (extract from herbs).
Contraindications: tuberculosis, liver and kidney diseases, uncompensated cardiac diseases, arterial hypertension over 180 mm HG, Parkinson, acute ulcer, neoplasm, phsyhical diseases, drug addiction.
