PRESENTATION OF COVASNA SPA - ROMANIA

The numerous mineral water springs, either for drinking or for treating various ailments, the forests, unpolluted lakes and rivers make of Covasna a county propitious for tourism, all over the year; if he is not fond of hunting or fishing, the traveler may go for long walks, climb the mountains or ride horses, visit history, art or ethnographic museums. Known for the healing microclimate, Covasna spa even gave its county name, called also "the spa of those 1000 health springs" the resort is mainly specialized in the treatment of cardiovascular affections. Covasna, under this name, was mentioned in documents in 1597 for the first time. Its name is coming from the Slav word "cvas" (sour), later "cvasna" in connection with its sour waters-mineral waters.

NATURAL CURE FACTORS.

Covasna is one of richest resorts in mineral waters in Romania with a great variety of its physical-chemical compositions. The mineral waters here are carbonaceous, bicarbonate, chlorosodic, iodinated and brominated, ferruginous, arsenical or slightly sulphurous, with a total mineralization of 3,2- 22,4 g/l, very rich in carbonic acid of volcanic origin (2,5 g/l). Another natural cure factor peculiar to the resort are the mofettes - emanations of natural gases, mainly carbon dioxide - used especially in the treatment of cardiovascular, gynecological, locomotor, dermatological, metabolically affections of the nervous system. The mofette gas of Covasna, containing 80-98 % carbon dioxide (if we know well such moffete gas can be found only in Japan), has a vasodilating effect, lowering the arterial tension, being thus salutary for the heart and the peripheral circulation. The mofettes are to be found at the treatment establishments of the hotels. The moffetes and the mineral waters offer the unicity of the balneary product and tourists call them "healing labs". Another important cure factor is sparing bioclimate, with a less exciting effect on the central and vegetative nervous system as well as on the glands with internal secretions. The variety of its natural cure factors combined with others medical methods offers the possibility of simultaneous treatment of more affections, which gives the complexity of Covasna. There are no thermal springs in our SPA, just mineral carbogaseus springs. The effects of moffetes and mineral carbon water: increase the dilatation of blood vessels; increase the muscular and cerebral blood flow with 50-75%; reduce arterial hypertension; increase the temperature of body extremities; pain reducer, soothing effect; produce a new repartition of de blood through the body, empty the viscera's and accumulate the blood in the skin and in the vital organs etc.

THERAPY PROGRAM

The therapy programs are monitorized by qualified medical personnel and includes 3 or more of the following procedures: warm bath in mineral carbogaseous water, moffetes ( therapy with natural dry carbon gas ), electro-physiotherapy (ultrasounds, ultrawaves, diadinamics, magnetodiaflux, galvanic bath), hydro-termotherapy (massage shower, underwater massage, paraffin packing, jacuzzi), inhalations and aerosols, dry massage, rehabilitation gym. The effective period for the treatment session recommended is 18 days but not less than 10 days. These procedures are prescribed according to the affection the tourists suffer for and its contraindications, based on the results of the bulletin with regular analyses (blood, EKG, lung-Röentgen, urine). On the first day the tourists will have a medical examination, after 3 days another one or whenever is necessary until the end of the treatment period.
